N7462 (217) N7462 was the ill-fated Viscount that operated Capital Airlines Flight 20 between Washington National and Norfolk on January 18th 1960. While cruising at an altitude of 8000 feet it encountered icing conditions, causing two engines to fail. As the craft descended to a lower alititude, the other two engines also failed, causing the propellers to autofeather. The crew tried and failed to restart the engines, and were unable to unfeather the propellers normally; they then put the plane into a dive in an attempt to force the propellers from their feathered position. It crashed into a farm in Charles City County, Virginia with the loss of all 50 on board.
