This press release just came out...
Mexicana announces new Calgary-Mexico City service CALGARY, Dec. 11 /CNW/ - Mexicana Airlines announced today a non-stop service between Calgary and Mexico City beginning June 1, 2008. This new service to the vibrant Capital of Mexico, one of the most important economic hubs in Latin America, will offer travellers quick and convenient connections to sunny beaches and spectacular colonial cities throughout Mexico and other countries in Latin America. "Canada is one of the most important regions in Mexicana's network of routes and proof of this is the growth we have had in Canada over the last 10 years," said Jorge Goytortua, Vice President West Coast USA & Canada, Mexicana Airlines. "Aware of the economic growth in the west, we have decided to incorporate Calgary as a new destination and are sure it will be a great success. With this new flight, we look to link not only the City of Mexico with Calgary, but also beautiful beaches and colonial cities in Mexico as well as Central and South America where Mexicana has a strong presence". Departing year-round from Calgary International Airport four times a week, Mexicana will operate an Airbus 319 aircraft, which boasts an award-winning 12 seat Executive class and 108 full-service hospitality class to passengers. Calgary is now Mexicana's fourth Canadian gateway, in addition to Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. "Mexico, with its enormous economic potential is one of the most important markets for Calgary's businesses. A new connection to one of the largest cities in the world will further simulate business and tourism between the two regions," said Calgary Mayor Dave Bronconnier. "Congratulations on choosing Calgary as your next Canadian destination." "This new non-stop service to Mexico City is a great addition to our passenger route network," said Garth Atkinson, President and CEO of The Calgary Airport Authority. "Mexico is an important business link for the Calgary community and direct access to Mexico City will continue to build that important Alberta-Mexico connection." Mexicana Airlines is the airline with the most extensive international coverage from Mexico and is the leading transportation company between Mexico and the United States. Operating in Canada for over 10 years and operating in the commercial aviation market for 86 years, Mexicana flies to 50 destinations in North, Central, South America and the Caribbean from their hub at the Mexico City International Airport. In 2007, the World Travel Awards recognized it as the leading airline in Mexico and Latin America for the tenth consecutive year and as the leading business class airline in Mexico and Latin America for the third consecutive year.
