LAX:
Henry (the webmaster here) has written an article about spotting at LAX. My favourite spot is the hill off Imperial Highway (south of LAX) and the top floor of the parking garage next to In-N-Out Burger (north of LAX).

SAN:
There is a sport where N Harbor Dr meets W Laurel St east of the terminal building near the end of the runway. The double layer chain link fence is high here. I need to stand on top of the rental van to take photos.
