Default South America/Slides/Models

Hi Henry,

I just read your trip report for Argentina on your other website.
Very nice report!! I am actually planning on going to Argentina, Chile, and
Montevideo on a South America trip in February. I went to Brasil last
October for a friend's wedding, then I went back in February for Carnaval.
Carnaval was amazing...so crazy man!!! I spent quite a bit of time in
Campinas, Sao Paulo, and Rio. I have friends there too now so I got Brasil
covered and know what to expect there.

For Argentina and Montevideo, the biggest question I have is do you use
their local currency in shops and for food etc? Or can just use US dollars?
I ***ume their currency, but I know when you enter Chile you have to pay for some tourist card that goes in p***port, and that is in USD. Brasil was easy as everything was in Reais. But for Chile/Argentina/Uruguay, I want to know if it's a place where just use USD or actually use their own ones because if it's USD then it makes it easy in terms of carrying cash instead of all these currencies.

Another question I have...I have gone through my Kodachrome collection and I have about 200 spares of some stuff like ZIP, Harmony white 757, Air North
732 taxiing by Avis in winter...some decent stuff. I want to get rid of this
stuff, as I do not collect anymore (I have gone digital) and I am just
interested in certain things like Canadian Airlines stuff. Do you buy stuff
for your website...I'd like to offload them to someone local and I am not
looking for big bucks.

Also, I have a whole bunch of Herpa Wings 1:500 scale models that I want to
sell as they are taking up too much space. I stopped collecting them years
ago, and I am still keeping many, but I want to get the space back in my
room from all the others. Do you know anyone who collects those that might
be interested in buying some? I spent quite a bit of cash on these over the
years, so I would like to try and recoup some of the cost.

Cheers,
Rich

Hi Richard,
I am sure Henry will respond to you in detail ... but just a quick comment from me regarding currency .... Anywhere in the world (does not matter South America/Europe/Asia) if you use the local currency you lower the risk of getting ripped off by the store owners (like we do it everywhere!!!). I highly recommend you to buy your foreign currency here in Canada and have some USD cash as a back up (you never know you may find a nice airplane model or something there and of course your CC. However, again by experience, do not allow your plastic to be taken to another room to be charged especially with a manual machine ... use it where ever it is an automatic CC machine. I wish I were able to go to Argentina & Uruguay! Argentina is amazing, Uruguay is cute ... Lots of good food, wine, beer, beaches and sightseeing Have fun & make sure to prepare a "TRIP REPORT" we'd love to hear Idil

Hi Richard, Yep .. we took down mostly USD and did buy some Argentina Pesos here before leaving. We had no problem converting USD to Argentina Pesos and Uruguayan Pesos at Cambios down there. Just like Idil said, you will get ripped off if you try and use USD down there.

I'd like to see the 200+ slides you want to flog. We'll have to arrange to meet at the Avis spot one of these days. Just drop me an email and we'll tee it up. After labour day weekend will be best for me.

As for the models, try listing posting a seperate post offering them for sale in the models section of this forum. Costs you nothing.

Thanks for the post Rirchard ... much appreciated!
